On the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, a group of Syrian civil society organizations
sent a letter to the United Nations, the Human Rights Council and the States members of the Human Rights Council demanding the need to take serious steps towards detainees and forcibly disappeared persons. Thousands of Syrians, whose fate remains undisclosed, continue to suffer torture as well as the most inhumane treatment in secret and official detention centers and camps across Syrian territory; many human rights defenders who documented disappearances, detention and torture were victims of the same practice as well.
