What does meaningful local leadership look like in practice — and where is it actually happening?

Join us on 7 September for the launch of Issue 87 of the Humanitarian Exchange, focusing on local leadership in a changing humanitarian architecture.

The launch will bring together humanitarian networks and practitioners from different contexts to explore what local leadership means beyond commitments and policy statements, and what it takes to ensure local actors have meaningful participation, influence, and decision-making power.

The conversation will explore:

• Why local leadership matters now and why humanitarian networks have placed it at the centre of this edition.
• Experiences and examples of local leadership in practice across different humanitarian contexts.
• The barriers that continue to limit meaningful participation and influence of local actors.
• What needs to change to support more equitable partnerships and a humanitarian system that better reflects local knowledge, priorities, and leadership.

The event is co-hosted by the Humanitarian Practice Network (HPN), Center for Civil Society and Democracy (CCSD), Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network (APRRN), Feminist Humanitarian Network (FHN), and Alliance for Empowering Partnerships (A4EP).
