Years of conflict in Syria have forced countless people to flee, with many disappearing along migration and asylum routes. For their families, the absence of information has meant years of unanswered questions, fear, and unresolved grief. As developments continue to reshape the Syrian landscape since December 2024, the need for coordinated advocacy that centers these families and presses states to meet their legal and humanitarian responsibilities has become increasingly urgent.

Responding to this need, the Center for Civil Society and Democracy (CCSD) has joined Syrian civil society partners in endorsing a legal paper developed by the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM) and the Association of Families of Missing Asylum Seekers (AFOMAS), titled “The Right of Families of the Missing on the Path to Asylum to Know the Truth.”

The paper outlines concrete recommendations to strengthen international accountability, improve cross-border cooperation, and ensure meaningful support for families seeking truth, justice, and recognition of their rights.
