Over the past years, Syrian society has experienced many daunting and unprecedented circumstances due to the continuous war between the regime and armed opposition factions, as well as the setbacks that have resulted from the war, such as social and economic devastation, the destruction of Syria’s infrastructure, gross violations of human rights, the escalation of civil and political conflict, and the absence of democracy and tolerance among the different parties. This made it necessary to seek solutions that have the potential for sustainability and future application.
Civil work in Syria has no solid foundations, especially at the institutional level, as a result of decades of dictatorship that has stifled the emergence of a free and active civil society. We realized that it is essential to promote the values of democracy within Syrian society, through the dissemination of civil culture and work to build institutions of governance with the highest standards of transparency that operate on the basis of democracy.
