The Center for Civil Society and Democracy (CCSD) joined Immigrants Act Now and dozens of other organizations in signing a Congressional letter led by Representative Rashida Tlaib, urging the U.S. administration to renew and redesignate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syria.

This effort—organized by Immigrants Act Now, a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to protecting and empowering Arab immigrants in the United States—calls for the extension of TPS to ensure continued protection for Syrians who remain unable to safely return home.

The letter follows CCSD’s earlier endorsement of the July 2025 joint NGO appeal urging an 18-month extension of TPS for Syrians beyond its September 2025 expiration. The recent decision by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to terminate TPS would put thousands of Syrians at risk of detention and deportation, despite the ongoing instability and insecurity in Syria.

By joining this collective call, CCSD reaffirms its commitment to advocating for the rights, safety, and dignity of Syrians everywhere, and to ensuring that U.S. policies reflect humanitarian principles during this critical moment.
