Syrian women and Syrian civil society have been playing a crucial role in advancing the constitutional process forward through conducting discussions, producing policy papers and holding advocacy sessions. As an example, women organizations have drafted Gender Sensitive Constitutional Principles for Syria.
One third of the constitutional committee members are representatives of civil society. There are 42 female members in the Large Body (28%) and 13 female members in the Small Body(29%). This percentage of participation was the result of long term strategic advocacy efforts for meaningful participation of women and civil society in the peace and constitutional process.
Syrian women and Syrian civil society are playing an essential role in working on input documents to support the effort of the CC and the political process.
