Opening of applications for Chevening Scholarships: the prestigious global scholarship programme of the UK government

That we would welcome applications from Syrians within institution who have the potential to be a future leader.
Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The scholarships offer the opportunity to study for a one-year Master’s degree at any of the UK’s leading universities, and are awarded to outstanding established or future leaders across a wide range of fields.
The programme provides a unique opportunity for tomorrow’s leaders to build a global network of continuing professional significance and also to establish social, cultural, academic, or commercial partnerships with the UK.
Following a recent increase in investment in the scheme from the FCO, we are pleased to be able to offer approximately 1,500 scholarships across the globe, including in Lebanon.
Applications for a Chevening Scholarship must be submitted online at www.chevening.org/syria and the deadline for receipt of applications is 7 November at 12:00 GMT (midday UK time). Applications received after this date will not be processed.
Syrian applicants should read the online guidance and demonstrate how they meet the Chevening selection criteria before submitting an application.  If they have further questions about the programme they can use the contact us function on the website www.chevening.org
Your assistance in promoting the programme within your institution would be greatly appreciated and I would be grateful if you could direct those whom you consider would make excellent Chevening candidates to www.chevening.org. If you wish to receive Chevening promotional materials to facilitate this please contact Hrag Avdanian/ Syria Chevening Officer, hrag.avdanian@fco.gov.uk to discuss this further.
Whilst Chevening Scholarships are predominantly funded by the UK Government, we are increasingly keen to explore alternative sources of funding that could complement the UK Government grant and further increase the number of scholarships to be awarded to one particular country. Partnership Scholarships are an excellent way to maximise the funding available and can bring direct benefits to each of the funding parties. Partnerships can be discussed directly with the Chevening Officer at the UK Syria Office in the British Embassy in Beirut and we would welcome you to contact us to explore further.
