Space for Collaboration has brought together diverse groups of Syrian women activists from various local, national, and international backgrounds over the years. They have consistently agreed to coordinate and collaborate on all issues concerning Syrians, both men and women.
The first “Space for Collaboration” conference, held in August 2014, gathered 30 Syrian women from different regions to exchange experiences and expertise among themselves. They worked towards bridging the gaps between the three tracks.
The second “Space for Collaboration” conference in March 2017 brought together 35 Syrian women representing a broad spectrum of Syrian society. They worked on gendering the political agenda in the negotiation process. This collaboration and joint work resulted in the issuance of recommendations for the effective participation of Syrian women in the political process. To view the recommendations, click here.
The third “Space for Collaboration” conference in November 2017 further strengthened collaboration and cooperation among Syrian women, particularly in advocacy and coalition building.
The fourth “Space for Collaboration” conference in March 2019 gathered 30 Syrian women who worked on gendering the issue of detainees to find a just and sustainable solution. The collaborative work of the participants led to the issuance of recommendations on the gendering of detainees’ issues. To view the recommendations, click here.
The fifth “Space for Collaboration” conference, held from the 28th of February to the 1st of March 2020, gathered over 30 Syrian women to increase cooperation and coordination among various Syrian women representing a broad segment of Syrian society. The conference aimed to provide a gender-sensitive analysis of the political process, including the constitutional process and the situation on the ground. It also discussed recommendations that consider gender differences regarding detainees and internally displaced persons, in addition to the issue of refugees. To view the recommendations, click here.
The sixth “Space for Collaboration” conference, held from 12th to 27th of March 2021, gathered 30 Syrian women to increase women’s participation in public life and advocacy with international bodies to enhance participation, prevent discrimination against them, and analyze the parties involved in the political process.
The seventh “Space for Collaboration” conference, held from the 24th to the 31st of August 2023, gathered more than 50 Syrian women to expand the space of cooperation and coordination among Syrian women.
The conference also aimed to analyze the challenges and risks facing refugees and to gain a broader understanding of the Independent Institution on Missing Persons.
